What It Means To Be AFMC Certified

Complete two semesters of training in advanced functional medicine sciences and application in practice and pass both rigorous semester exams.
Display competence in applying knowledge through real-time patient/client interaction and case studies, and pass a comprehensive patient-driven, science-based formal case study.
Maintain credentialing through updated recertification examination every three years. Required to maintain active status.

Meet SAFM’s Scientific Review Board

Oversight is provided by SAFM’s Scientific Review Board, a body representative of experts in the fields of functional medicine, clinical practice and health coaching, and health and wellness entrepreneurship.  Responsible for providing annual review and approval of each level of SAFM’s AFMC exam process, the board’s oversight helps to preserve the scientific integrity of our Applied Functional Medicine Certification (AFMC) credential and certifies that SAFM’s training and evaluation structure validates substantial expertise in applied functional medicine knowledge.  This collaboration ensures students are armed with the latest knowledge and research in functional medicine and that we maintain our ACCME accreditation status.
